Teresa “Imani” Billingsley, M.Ed., L.P.C., C.E.A.P.

Teresa Billingsley is a full time therapist at Wishing You Well Counseling Center. She received her Master of Education in Agency Counseling from Lynchburg College, and her Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Sociology and Religious Studies from the University of Virginia. Teresa has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since, January 2005 and a Certified Employee Assistant Professional (CEAP) since, June 2006. Teresa provides counseling to a diverse group of individuals and families with a variety of behavioral and mental health issues. Through her active role in the PeopleWorks division of Employee Assistance of Central Virginia (EACV), Teresa conducts trainings on various personal and workplace issues. Teresa also works part-time with Anderson Counseling Services providing clinical supervision and consultation for Intensive In-home and Day Treatment mentors and counselors.

Teresa is involved in the Lynchburg City-wide community outreach program on race and racism, Many Voices/One Community as a facilitator and is also a member of the Youth Services Citizen Board for the City of Lynchburg. She was honored with the Counselor of the year in Community Service by the Lynchburg Area Counselor Association in 2009. As the youngest of seven children, Teresa is the primary caretaker of her mother and two very active beagles. She is a self-professed sports spectator, with tennis, football and the World Poker Tour topping the list. In October 2000, Teresa was ordained a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ and strives to minister that life changing power through actions, deeds, the spoken word, and her personal attitude to “act as if….”

Teresa operates from a Reality Therapy approach to counseling, advocating the belief that everyone attempts to fulfill their basic needs either responsibly or irresponsibly. Coupled with the Systems Approach to family counseling, Teresa believes that one’s family of origin/fostering plays a major role in how one interacts in society, and the goal of therapy is to help individuals and families find a healthier path along life’s journey.
